  • Double Boiler
  • Cheese Grater
  • Whisk

  • 6 oz Box of Macaroni & Cheese Annies is our favorite
  • 1/2 cup Milk Whole milk recommended, but skim works fine too
  • 1 tbsp Butter Real butter only!
  • 1.5 tbsp Aged Gouda Cheese (Shredded) Use up to 18-month.  Longer than that and it does not melt well.

  • Put water in the bottom pot of a double boiler.
  • In the top pot of the double boiler, add the butter and milk and bring water to a boil.
  • Reduce to low heat when water reaches a boil or when butter is melted, whichever comes first.
  • Add the cheese packet from the box and gouda to the top pot.
  • Whisk cheese sauce until smooth
  • Remove cheese sauce from the heat and set aside. Leave covered with the lid.
  • In the lower pot, bring water to boil.
  • Lower to medium heat and add noodles.
  • Cook noodles to 90% al dente (usually 1 minute less than box recommendations). Removing slightly before al dente is important since the cheese sauce is hot/warm and will not slow down the cooking of the noodles as in the standard box instructions.
  • Strain noodles well and add to cheese sauce.
  • Mix noodles and cheese sauce together.
  • Serve hot!
